I stole this from
jandjsalmon,
nbaeker,
rainpuddle13,
tudorrose1533, and
akaibara. I used the text of my story "In Vino Veritas", though I removed some of the Dracos and Ginnys because they really dominated the picture. I suppose that's cheating, but I really don't care!

And speaking of "In Vino Veritas", I forgot to mention that it won Best D/G Humor and was runner up for Best D/G Romance at the
tnl_awards. Thanks to everyone who voted!

Over the weekend,
nokomis305 made a comment about a D/G scenario she likes to imagine. That sent me into a bit of an unexpected writing frenzy, which resulted in a new fic in her honor. I hope you enjoy it!

The story written for me in the
dgficexchange was posted, and it is absolutely fabulous. In my (admittedly biased) opinion, it is the best fic of the exchange so far. I am truly very lucky. So if you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for? Here is the link to the first part: "Notes on Falling Out of Love"
Also, a very happy Easter to all who celebrate it!

Here is the penultimate chapter! I hope to have the last one up soon, especially now that I have gotten my prompt for the
dgficexchange and need to be working on that. :)

Here is the next chapter. There will only be two more after this, and I am going to try to post them both by February 1, so I can spend my time on my fic for the
dgficexchange, but I can't guarantee that that will actually happen!

To get the really important news out of the way, I am done with my Christmas shopping!
Now, the main point of the post: the next chapter of "In My Life" is up. I'm afraid, though, that it will be a couple of weeks before the next one goes up--I'm going to be pretty busy with the holidays and a wedding.

At long last, I have another chapter of "In My Life" to post. My husband/beta reader was away, and then we both had finals to contend with, but now they are over, so we have a little bit of breathing room. Hopefully the next chapter will come a little more quickly!

Here is the next chapter. Some of you might remember me posting a while ago about a character who had taken on a life of his own, entirely opposed to what I had planned for him; you will meet him in this chapter. By the way, due to my husband/beta's schedule, it will probably be at least a week until I am able to update again.

I have started posting a new fic! Updates may not be as quick as I would like, but hopefully they won't be too slow.
This new story is a take on D/G I don't think I've seen before, and has the benefit of being fully compliant with Deathly Hallows (even the epilogue), but still more or less fluff. I don't think it is nearly as good as "In Vino Veritas", but I didn't think that was very good when I started posting it, either, which goes to show what I know. I guess we'll have to see how it goes. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the story!

I stole this meme from
lyndsiefenele.
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
If you can't guess which book these sentences are from, you are not a typical reader of my journal! And no, I didn't cheat. I actually keep copies of all the HP books by my computer to facilitate writing fanfic. Yes, I'm pathetic. Since I have already revealed myself to be hopelessly nerdy, I will also point out that this particular excerpt led my husband and I into a serious discussion about what, exactly, constitutes a sentence. We decided that single words as exclamations probably qualify, even without verbs. That said, here we go:
"Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!
"Thank you!"
(Just for the purposes of academic honesty, these sentences are, of course, from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling.)

I finished reading DH earlier today, and thought I would share some of my thoughts, especially since my husband is still rereading the earlier books (he just started OotP), so I can't say anything to him until he is done.
( Thoughts on Deathly Hallows--SPOILERS! )
( Thoughts on Deathly Hallows--SPOILERS! )
Nearly six years ago, I read the first four Harry Potter books for the first time, and in some ways, my life hasn't been the same since. I was immediately captivated by the world and characters that Rowling created, and thoroughly enjoyed speculating on what would or would not happen in the later books. My interest only snowballed when I was introduced to fan fiction, and found out how much fun it can be to play with the characters and settings myself. A big part of that fun was knowing that what I wrote was still possible (even when I knew all along that it was exceedingly unlikely).
Now, in less than eleven hours, I will have the final book in my hand, with all of its definitive answers. In some ways, I am looking forward to finally knowing, to discovering exactly where Rowling's vivid imagination has led. And yet, I am sad to lose the uncertainty of it all. Because, when it comes down to it, I don't suppose I (or many of the millions of fans worldwide) would have been nearly as excited about the stories if we knew all along how they ended. If, all those years ago, I was able to read the whole series at once, I'm sure I would have devoured them just as quickly as I did, and enjoyed them thoroughly, but I am not at all sure they would have caught my imagination to quite the same extent. There wouldn't have been nearly as much to contemplate and draw me in.
I believe that after tomorrow, the fandom will begin to disperse. It won't happen immediately, for sure, but it will begin to slowly dwindle away. The uncertainty has pulled us together just as much as our love for the books, and once we have all of the answers (or at least as many as Rowling is willing to give us), I doubt there will be quite as much need for the discussion, speculation, and fan fiction that draw us all together. I'll miss that very much.
Yet even if the experience will be bittersweet, I am still excited about reading the new book. I was at the bookstore this morning when it opened to stand in line for my wristband, and I will be there again at midnight, with all of the other fans, probably bouncing on the balls of my feet in anticipation. I will read the seventh book just as avidly as I did the first six, though perhaps I will stop to savor it just a little more than I did the others. Last times are always sad, and I find it hard to believe I will ever feel quite this way again about a series of books. Luckily, even when I have read Deathly Hallows and digested its contents, the books will still be there, even if that spark of speculation is gone. They will still be part of my life, old friends to turn to, to share with my children, if I have any. The fandom will still be there, even if it is never quite the same. And I will still have the friendships I have made along the way.
At midnight tonight, an era will end, but hopefully at least a little of the magic will linger on.

I'm finally starting to get caught up with my life, and this weekend, I even had a little time to write. So at long last, after more than three months, here is the next of the time-stamp meme ficlets I promised to write. I have one more to go, but I'm not sure when that will happen. Hopefully before another three months pass!

Birthday Cake, six months after "Baking Lessons".
Be Careful What You Wish For, within a week of "The More Things Stay the Same".
Lessons to Learn, just after "The First Sign of Spring".

As many of you probably know already, the closure of FIA was an April Fools' prank. The whole Cabal (past and present) was in on it. We all did our part to make it seem real, and pretty much all of the drama was instigated by members of the Cabal. (Yes, Mynuet and Lyndsie Fenele's little spat was all staged, as were all of our posts today.) We were all blown away by the amount of support that was shown for the site, for
mynuet, for
lyndsiefenele, and for the rest of us. That caused all kinds of guilt, which led us to end the whole thing early. I hope that nobody was irreparably harmed by the prank, and that the reopening of the site will help soothe any wounds you may have incurred. One thing from my previous post that wasn't a joke, however, was my appreciation for all of the friends that I have met through FIA. I hold you all in the highest appreciation, and I hope that our friendships will outlast any single site on the web.
